During the dark months at the beginning of 2011 I was reading about the decimation of the wild salmon here on the west coast. I began to knit fish with the idea of leaving them outside in public areas. The fish were knitted, sewn together and embroidered with messages about being wild as seemed appropriate.

At the beginning of April we hung the fish at Brockton Point in Stanley Park. It was a perfect tree in a perfect place. Every few days I would visit the fish to see how they were faring. At the beginning of May I was thrilled to see the fish hanging in a mass of blossom. The fish were gone after about four or five weeks.

Here are some photographs from the 2011 Fish Project

About a week after this photo was taken, the fish were gone.
