Mixed Media on Canvas

The process that I use to create these images starts with the drawings on rice or japanese papers lifted from an inked plate. I then collage these drawings onto the canvas. I start with a central piece and although I have an idea when I begin, I don’t always know how it will turn out. I add drawings, usually created with the same process, that relate to the theme of the piece. Once the rice paper is fixed to the canvas I use watercolour, acrylics and gouache to paint and stencil, adding colour and texture. As place is significant, maps are attached and relate to the imagery of the landscape.
